BOF Submission time extended

Filed under: Team System — phacker @ 3:18 pm

Going to TechEd2008? Wanting to get more involved in the community? Here’s your chance. They have extended the submission time so that you know have an opportunity to submit a Birds of the Feather topic before voting commences. This is a great way to get involved. You can get more details from the INETA February newsletter. http://www.ineta.org/newsletters/2008_02.htm#A10

Based upon feedback, we have extended the deadline for topic submissions to Wed 4/2/2008 and the voting deadline to Mon 4/7/2008.

So get those topics in ASAP.

IndyTFS Meeting

Filed under: Team System — phacker @ 1:10 pm

Join us next week March 26th 2008 for our monthly meeting of IndyTFS.

Extracting Real Business Information from the TFS Data Warehouse

Presented by Jamie Kurtz from Open Solutions

This session will focus on the tremendous value the TFS data warehouse can bring your organization. We will start with an overview of the two different data stores that make up the warehouse - including an overview of the main tables and the Team System cube. Then we walk through some examples on analyzing this data with tools like Excel, Access, and SQL Server Reporting Services. The goal of this session is to provide enough of an introduction that attendees will be able to return to their own TFS environments and implement great visibility into their development processes.

This promises to be a great meeting. If you have ever heard Jamie speak you know that he is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of TFS. If you have never heard him, try to get to the meeting and see what I mean.

Remember that this will be our last meeting at the Microsoft Office. In April we will be moving. See the website for details. Please register so that we order enough pizza.

The Exchange Server 2007 installation process

Filed under: Team System — phacker @ 4:54 am

I have been playing around with Exchange lately to learn about setting it up in a production environment. Just another technology to understand a bit better. I am by no means an Exchange guru, so I did a bit of digging to see what I need to do to not only prep my server, but to do a smooth install. I happened to stumble across this great set of articles that I found to be quite a nice walk through. They use the beta product, but it really was no different than installing Exchange w/SP1. If you are curious, or want a quick rundown of the process, I suggest that you check these articles out.

BadImageFormatException

Filed under: Uncategorized — phacker @ 5:07 pm

I have been working on a multithreaded application and I have been running it on my desktop machine as I am building it out. Everything seems to be running smoothly so I decide that it is time to move it over to my dual quad core zeon box to see how well it will do in that scenario. At this point I am just gathering metrics. I create the installer and install it on the box and as soon as I runn the app I get the following error “BadImageFormat Exception”. Not quite sure whats going on, I surmised that it had something to do with the fact that my desktop is x86 and my servers are x64, Now I know I compiled it using “Any CPU”. Should work I would think. Well I was wrong. In order for it to run on the x64 box, I needed to actually compile it using “x86″ cpu selection. The issue was not so much the app itself as it was the 3rd party dll that I had referenced. If I removed it then all went well to a point (no work was really done).  So if you run into this issue try out this solution and see if it helps.

RadioTFS is back

Filed under: Team System — phacker @ 3:10 pm

RadioTFS is a podcast series that was started about 6 weeks ago between myself and Mickey Gousset (www.teamsystemrocks.com). We had a bit of a hiatus between the first and second show while we ramp up. The extended wait seems to have been good for us as we have picked up another host that will be joining us as we go forward. Martin Woodward (www.woodwardweb.com) and a fellow MVP has jumped in both feet first and has helped us out  quite a bit. RadioTFS is now available via Feedburner (http://feeds.feedburner.com/radiotfs) and is also available on iTunes. We are also putting together a website that our listeners can go to at www.radiotfs.com . We are always looking for topic ideas, so if there is something that you want to hear  about, questions you want us to answer on air, or just general comments(good or bad), then please submit them to radiotfs@gmail.com. We spend a bit of time at the end of the show to answer questions and read feedback. Like I said, we are going to try and keep a schedule to around twice a month, but we are all ubber busy and may not make that goal, but we will try. Hope you like the show and look forward to hearing from you.

Indy Code Camp is live

Filed under: Team System — phacker @ 2:47 pm

On April 26th, Indianapolis, Indiana is going to host its first ever (that i know of) code camp. I personally know all the players and from what I can tell this is going to be an event you will not want to miss. There is only room for 250 people, so I suggest that you register right away to ensure your spot. http://indycodecamp.com . They are also looking for speakers and topic suggestions, so if you never spoke and would like to, like to speak and want more, have a great technology that you are passionate about, then by all means get over there and sign up and make a request. I am mulling over what topic I would like to talk about. I am thinking VSTS Extensibility, although that may be to specialized for this event, but then again….  Oh well I will think it over and probably suggest something cool in 3.5. Who knows. Either way I will be there.

IndyTFS is moving

Filed under: Team System — phacker @ 1:49 am

Begining with our April meeting, IndyTFS will no longer be meeting at the Microsoft office. Our new new home and time will be on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Glick Junior Achievement Center immediately following the IndyNDA meeting. A lot of thought was put into this decision and it did not come easily, but I feel it is the best thing for the group. If you have any concerns or questions feel free to get with me after the next meeting. Thanks again for all your support and hope you will continue to support us.
